LETTER: Monday April 5.1943
Monday April 5.1943
Dear Mom and Dad, Received your lovely letter. Thanks for the address I will write to the girl in Africa. Yes, she has a funny name indeed. I don”™t know if I will stay over here or not now if you get what I mean. I can”™t tell yet, we”™ll just keep our fingers crossed. I am going up tomorrow to put in for private duty. We work 12 hours straight, for $14. I feel much better now; James makes me eat Chinese food. It is easy to digest and good for you. You know I never saw a guy eat rice like he can. He prefers it to anything but southern fried chicken. He had the blues, was lonesome for his mother, first time I have ever heard him say he was homesick. He had a falling out with Dopey. I sure laughed. He took Dopey off of his bed and said you find somewhere else to sleep. Well a couple of days later I told him Dopey sure was down on him and the next evening I came in from the dentist and there he sat holding Dopey and now when we go out to dinner he first puts Dopey to bed. I get quite a laugh out of it. On Dad”™s birthday we went down to the park and to the aquarium to see the fish and all kinds of sea life, real interesting. Boy, Aunt Alice would go wild over the beautiful fish here, they are every color. The pretty ones I think are the yellow and lavender ones and the homeliest things are the eels and crabs. There are some fish that look like Mrs. Roosevelt, no kiddin. I heard from Cyril Fritz, he is in Africa. Said he ran across Howard Harris in Ireland. Cyril”™s brother Joe is in the same camp with him. I wonder where Paul will stay if he comes. There sure isn”™t anything vacant. Thanks Dad for the letter. Had a nice card and letter from Miss Sakes. The lady I stay with is an old maid school teacher too. I will try and get a picture taken of the two of us before it”™s too late and I”™ll send Grandma C. one then. My girlfriend Erica Webb is coming over, I got her a job at Leahi Home. She sure is excited over it. James managed to get me an electric iron. One of the boys in his outfit had it and James kept at him until he got it. You know you can”™t buy them anymore. I had five bananas for breakfast and dinner combined. Well bye now. Love to you all Aloha -AraBelle
