LETTER: Wednesday March 31.1943
Wednesday March 31.1943
Dear Folks, Well here I am again; hope I don”™t bother you with my letters. I know they are dull and all say the same thing, but then that”™s all we can say, is “military” so that”™s why our letters are always the same I know they must get rather boresome -I went out to see Frankie the other day and really went out in style, had my own driver, the car company sent a car up and he drove me all over. I took a birthday cake out to James in the field; he was in overalls and dirt over his face. He got a few hours off (providing his commanding officer got some cake too that evening). He gave all his officers some cake and they celebrated with him. I gave him a smart present, stating it was from you folks. It was a fancy bottle with alligator leather covering full of face lotion in cologne. I had a nice letter from Bob and his aunt. He sent some pictures of Melbourne and they said my picture was on the mantel piece in the drawing room. How”™s about that? Bob said Australia was beginning to like me very much. Ha! Had a letter from Sted, his address is now San Francisco so he must be over here now. Never heard anymore from Johnnie nor Jr or Slip. James will land here soon. It is good to see him but then someone must go down there to fetch him. Better get this over with I guess. Bye now ”“ AraBelle PS -Oh say, I also had a letter from Jim, he is Major now he said. Had a letter from Mrs. Barne she said you were going down for your operation Why didn”™t you do it all once? Frankie looked well, was out on porch in bed, was rather nervous and showed me his girl”™s picture -one from Iowa -nice looking.
