Tuesday March 23 1943
Dear Diary,
I have around 100 patients now. More fun. No! Mums was operated upon March 16, five days after the operation she wrote me a letter, boy I”™m proud of her. Well more and more nurses are getting hitched, hooked or whatever your call it. The wind is blowing a gale and me has a nasty cold, fine thing. I work for a year at the U.R.I. ward, no cold. I leave it for two weeks and bang ”“ cold. Lilly isn”™t here and more girls left for the states, some more came in, but we never see ”˜em. Sure would like to see some for awhile on our wards. Miss Elkins is gone now to Hickam as a surgery nurse, sure miss her. She”™s a gal from Brooklyn, weighs 200 plus lbs, 6 feet and 2 inches tall, but a real jitterbug and soldier. She was on A-1 with me.
A-1 shore has changed since we left, even the ward boys are gone -one went back to the 122 M.D., the other lubber to the Mainland.
