LETTER: Friday January 8.1943
Friday January 8.1943
Dear Mums and Dad, Hello how you been? I have been thinking of you all of late. Hope you had a good holiday season. We sure did here. I met another Campbell boy here also had a letter from another boy, Otis Meyers, he lives across the road from Aunt Darlene and Guss. I don”™t know him but guess it”™s ok. Had a cute v-mail card from Lola May Kendall. She belongs to the WAFC in which they choose someone in the overseas services to write to and she choose me. Had a card from Johnny, his address is U.S.S. Chanticleer, c/o P.M. San Fran. California. As near as I can make out it -was blurred so couldn”™t make it out very well. Had my Typhoid shot again so am feeling like a blob or worn out dish rag. Artie Shaw is over here playing now. He is in the Navy. He thinks himself quite the guy, so a little sailor took him apart, really beat him up. So maybe he”™ll not be so proud. We got our raise but now we have to pay for our laundry, buy furniture for our nurse”™s home, have no maid service and our mess bill was raised. Anyhow it”™s a mess. How they expect us to cart our laundry up and down this hill in a truck is on me and no laundry will do it and those that do take about three to four weeks. I wonder if they back in Washington know the conditions over here. Well so much for griping. Bye now -AraBelle PS -Sent a money order hope you get it. Did you ever receive the wooden stuff? PSS -How do you like the looks of James Jr?
