Letter: Sunday, August 23, 1942

Sunday, August 23, 1942
Dear Mums and Dad: Gee, golly, six weeks an no letter how about one, huh!?! You don”™t know I look for any kind of a letter. I had a few words from Elaine. I sent here a few little things and the first of the month I will try to send you something. But we only get out on two hour passes now and that doesn”™t give us much time ”˜cause it takes half an hour or more to get to town and then try to get anything, it”™s worse than a dime store at Christmas time and then nine times out of ten they don”™t have it.
They are grand here however trying to entertain us and it is really appreciated. I got another letter from Australia from Bob; he is on a ship again. You see he had been over in England for two years and was coming from for a rest some, rest he is getting, anyhow, he said my parents think you must be quite a “flash dame,” (meaning to us ritzy) because I send such pretty envelopes, sometimes his letters are a riot, but very interesting. He states the US chaps are the Auzzie girl”™s idols; hence the Auzzie boys go without dates. I find the Australia boys very nice; they are more of a gentleman than the “wild indians.” think we are -such an impression. However they think the U.S. is OK. And as Jr would say 4-Oh.
Say Johnnie said he wrote and told you how spoiled I was, did he? I told him I was not spoiled and we would get along, as long as I had my own way always, so there. He wants to know why you never spanked me more often, I said you never did and he said, you must be the most patient lady in the world, I sez um ”“ could be!
Johnnie went to see Archie on Tuesday at least that was his plan. I heard from Jr and his letter was written in March. I think he will see Archie, I intend to go up and see him soon. Say do you still get the paper? I reordered for another month and just want to be sure they are sending it. Should I send Miss Pitts a gift? What is her address? I have written to Helen M. V. so many times and no answer, so nuts to her. No word from Sted either. I hear from Marie Furst real often and how is Zenia. I never hear from her. You can give the pictures on to Olen and Elaine and one to the sisters of Hot Springs. I sent one to each grandmother, one to Aunt Katie and Marge Aunt. Marge sent me three pair of panties, I couldn”™t get my legs in them, but he kids bought them like hot cakes. She also sent a hanky and some Fanny Farmers candy. She writes real often, but I never hear from Marie or anyone from Campbell. Guess they are all busy, we hope, sure hope they wake up that there is a war going on.
Excuse the paper, but I seem to have run out at present. That boy that has my book just wrote a letter, he has been to see his folks, his father is very ill and is now in Texas. So probably now he will have time to send you books. I have written to him about it. Well tell all hellos. Write soon, sooner than that And Dad I”™ll take two pages from you this time. I enjoyed one page so much that”™s while I”™ll take more.
Aloha Nui Loa ”“ AraBelle
