Letter: July 26, 1942
Dear Folks, Rec your letter of a month back and boy was I glad to hear from you -thought you had forgotten me. Ha. I received a letter from Elaine and she sent me another very beautiful hanky. I got five letters from patients I used to have -all in one day. One said that Martelis now doing private duty in Porterville. Johnnie did not come over this time, don”™t know what happened but hope to see him soon. But you know that is the way things are here, we never know when we will see the other guy again. Well if things go along all right I may see Archie, but maybe that would be too good to wish for. What are your thoughts on McArthur at this date? Mine, well, I have no comment. Sure too bad about it freezing there and all, we saw in the movies the other night about the snow in South Dakota and the damage it had caused. Well about that trip you can plan on it, but Dad will have to wear shorts over here to be up with the Joneses. And of course he will look ever so cute in a hula skirt.
About those necklaces they are all different. I am having a tan one made for you to go with your suit and will try and get you a pretty pair of white ones. We have fun here trying to shop, you go down and stand in line and then find they “no have that” but are going to get it soon, we hope, all in fun, though they are keeping things stocked pretty well. At times the shelves downtown get pretty bare and then all of a sudden they seem to blossom, boy it seems good to see this too.
And could you try and find me a pair of white hose again, that is one thing I can”™t seem to get. Usually what I can”™t find Johnnie does. I sent Uncle Paul a card like I”™m sending you folks. Well must sign off, hoping to hear from you real soon and Dad I”™m warning you no letter and off comes your head or something.
