Letter: July 16, 1942

July 16, 1942
Dear Mother and Dad: Well here goes for a few lines, you know it”™s really hard to write a letter anymore ”˜cause well there is nothing much to write about. I”™m still in the hospital; my foot is getting along ok. I really believe that someday I”™ll work once again. Oh Johnnie surely has been swell. He is really spoiling me, candy flowers and most everything. I sure wish Jr would come out this way, but then this is war and how well we know it. Aye? I have seen quite a bit of new land of late and sure hope to see more.
My greatest ambition now of course is the impossible, but I would still like to go up in one of our Army bombers and fly around for six or eight hours, wow, wouldn”™t that be swell.
I pay $1 a day here so sure want to get out soon. Boy oh boy waiting for a letter, no mail in so long. The only letters I get are from Johnnie who writes every day so I”™ll get some. Sure swell of him but then he can”™t say anything either. Well will close and hope you are ok. How far can you get on your gas ration, will it take you to town or not? We still have plenty sugar here, but they only get 10 gallons of gas per month, nice thing it”™s a small place.
Tell all hello.
Aloha – AraBelle
