Dear Mums and Dad, Just a few lines this p.m. I just got back from town. I got my blue suit. We had to have ours made. I also got a new pair of white shoes and blacks ones and three shirts. So guess I”™ll be fixed for awhile. I got $149 this month for back pay; boy did it ever come in handy! Spent my birthday shopping. Johnnie and I had planned a dinner and dance at the Royal, but he left on Friday and didn”™t come back until Tuesday so I didn”™t do too much.
Lei Day here was May Day and boy you should have seen the flowers. The McKinley High School made leis for all our boys and the USO had big parties for them. They sure try here to see we are entertained, of course we don”™t get out much, but there is always something to do when we do get out. I love to go out riding near the water front and see the pretty homes and gardens. On Thursday from 9 to 1 we get to go to see the gardens of all the private homes. I plan on going next Thursday.
I got a large picture of Johnnie and a musical powder box. I sent Elaine a subscription for the paper. Hope she will enjoy it. I also sent her a pin. I will try and get her something next month. Gee I got 12 letters all in one day, was sure tickled because we do wait for mail so long. Elaine sent me a number of pictures, the kiddies are real cute. I met a very cute ensign in the Navy but he doesn”™t top Jr, no sir.
