LETTER: Wednesday, March 25, 1942

Wednesday, March 25, 1942
Dear Mums and Dad, Just a few lines, while I was downtown today a Marine came over and said he knew me. I didn”™t know him, but he said he had been with Slip a number of times when I happened to meet Slip on the street. Anyhow he said Slip was in the hospital, had been for the past two weeks and had a cyst and infection in his leg. The boy said he would check tomorrow on his condition and let me know. I sent a picture of Dopey out to him. I think he”™ll be going back to the States soon.
Had a long letter from Anne Sinner, of Cleveland, Ohio. She was at Polly”™s for Christmas and got in on some of the box I sent. Do you know her? Well just six more nights and I”™ll be off of night duty. I want to take a three day pass next month and go to the other island, we get 72 hour passes around every five months or so. Did you receive your birthday present, the box of jellies and nuts and the shoes as yet?
I heard we got some WAACS over here but as yet have not cast my eyes upon any. Will be glad when they do appear as people here call us WAACS and WAVES and they are so rude. They will get just about to you and glare at you like you were on exhibition and say, there a WAAC, well my comeback is, I look them over, especially the civilians and say “well there goes a draft dodger” and that shuts them up, but you know it does get tiresome. Why I know I was called to at least 20 times going over a block, it appears to me no matter what we were they could be nice enough to keep it to themselves, but some people are just plain rude I guess. Well so much for my troubles as they say in the Army “if you have troubles, see the Chaplin” Ha ”“ well must close. Good luck to you both.
Aloha, AraBelle
