DIARY: December 15, 1941
Dear Diary, Bath day
today. The fence is about finished, sun shining, trade winds blowing and Hawaii”™s famous liquid sunshine is pouring. The boys are trying to eat their “chow” but the rain keeps filling their plate. However they are laughing and seem to be enjoying it. One boy is making the best of it; he is taking his morning shower. Poor kids need them, heaven only knows.

Jr came over Sunday and we went downtown. Gee what a place, to see a human is rare. If only I wanted to see anything or go window shopping (I mean peeping). I bought Jr a dollars worth of peanuts, ”˜cause he “wikes” them, then he turned the tables on me and bought ice cream cones. Oh, what a mess, There wasn”™t much to do, no shows, guards here and there, freshly dug trenches, sand bagged windows. So we went over and sat in the Isle palace grounds. Time sure flies, soon, all too soon, the kids left. I walked with them to the corner across from the YMCA. Gee I think we all hated to say good bye, ”˜cause now who knows when we will see each other again. Well the Alohas were said a few times and then wearily we turned towards our destinations. Darn these Japs any
how. I”™m not kidding, just thinking “thank goodness we call still think and talk like we want.” Hee.
I got a call today about my Uncle Sammy wanting me. I am getting anxious to go.
