NEWSREEL: Selective Service Term Extended 8.12.1941
In the early summer of 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt requested that the U.S. Congress prolong the service duration for draftees from twelve months to a total of thirty months, with the possibility of additional time if he deemed it necessary for national security. On August 12, the extension was narrowly approved by a one-vote margin in the United States House of Representatives.
